Well Water Treatment & Testing

Well Water: Treatment Options and Considerations

Private well water is untreated at the source, so treatment is based entirely on measured conditions at the home. Common well water treatment options include reverse osmosis systems for drinking and cooking water, whole-house filtration for sediment, iron, sulfur, and taste or odor issues, water softeners for hardness control, and UV disinfection for bacteria mitigation. In some cases, multiple treatment stages are required. System selection is based on test results, well output, and household demand, not assumptions.

Well water quality can change over time due to rainfall, seasonal conditions, nearby land use, or aging well components. Because there is no regulatory monitoring, routine testing is the only way to confirm continued water safety and treatment effectiveness.

Bacteria, Nitrates, and Metals in Well Water

Bacteria, nitrates, and naturally occurring metals are common concerns in private wells. Bacterial contamination can occur from surface water intrusion, septic influence, or compromised well construction. Nitrates are often associated with agricultural activity and pose specific risks in drinking water. Metals such as iron, manganese, arsenic, or lead may originate from local geology or plumbing materials.

Testing is required to identify which contaminants are present and at what levels. Based on results, C and J Water designs targeted solutions such as UV disinfection, specialized filtration media, reverse osmosis, or corrective well measures. Without testing, these issues cannot be reliably detected or addressed.

C and J Water provides testing-first well water solutions designed around verified data, proper system sizing, and long-term reliability.
